Garri Price drops to N280

A market survey by the news organisation of African country (NAN) in some major markets in Enugu metropolis on discovered that the costs of the white and red garri nosedived by regarding 36 per cent.

Some sellers same that the decreases in value was because of the large production of cassava by farmers within the state.

Miss Eby Ofor, a garri trader at Akwata market, mentioned that the value of a 4.5 litres ( curstrad ) bucket of white garri that was sold-out at N450 currently sells at N280.

She noted that the red garri is currently sold-out at of N350 as against the previous price of N550.

“For nearly 4 months, I even sold white garri and red garri for N450 and N550 severally, however currently as i'm talking the value has more gone down. As at around might, it accustomed value between N1,200 and N1,100,” she said.

Mr Jude Ugwueze, another garri dealer at Garki market, mentioned that a bag of garri is currently sold-out at N5,000 as against the previous value of N8,000.

A purchaser at Ogbete Main Market, Mrs Joy king expressed joy that the costs of garri has continued  to fall as there wasn't abundant cash in circulation.

“At least with the decrease in costs of foodstuff like Manihot utilissima (garri) and with the miscroscopic cash in circulation, one will manage to feed his or her family,” she said.

Mr Romanus Eze, the Chairman of the Cassava Farmers Association, Enugu Branch same that production of cassava has contributed to the reduction within the value of garri.

Eze said that cassava farming activities accumulated enormously in all part of the South-East States in 2017 resulting in fall within the costs of garri in numerous markets in 2018.
