New electoral bill act passed by senate

The Senate on weekday passed a brand new and fourth version of the Electoral Act 2010 (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

President Muhammadu Buhari had declined assent to the bill 3 times, citing some constitutional and drafting problems.

During the just-ended annual recess of the National Assembly, its Joint Committee on INEC  met to figure on the document supported the problems raised by the president.

Tuesday’s passage of the bill followed the adoption of the report of the committee conferred by its Chairman, Sen. Suleiman Nazif. He had aforesaid that the committee addressed all the problems raised by the president in retreating assent to the bill.

Speaking on the event, the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, aforesaid he hoped the president would currently assent to the projected law.

“Let ME congratulate all people, notably the Committee on Electoral Matters for the diligence they place in.
“We were ready to win this that looked nearly not possible at a time, and that I wish to commend everyone for creating this happen.
“This can go an extended means in up our electoral method and additionally strengthen our governance.
“I am positive with this currently, adult male President can, in fact, provide his assent, and that we will currently finally have associate degree Electoral Act that we might all be pleased with,” Saraki aforesaid.

The reports that the change seeks to produce the employment of Card Readers and the other similar technological devices for the election, among others, in keeping with Nazif.
